Maternity Benefits in Serbia
When a child is born, alongside the joy and indescribable happiness and love they bring into the home, a lasting concern also appears: will we have enough money to cover all the costs that come with a new family member?
Mothers in Serbia are entitled to:

Salary compensation during maternity leave
The amount is based on the average contribution base over the 18 months before leave begins, up to five average salaries. During the first three months, it cannot be lower than the minimum wage. Leave lasts 365 days for the first and second child, and two years for the third and fourth child.

Parental allowance for a newborn
For the first child: RSD 500,000 as a one-time payment. For the second child: RSD 600,000 in 24 monthly installments of RSD 25,000, plus one-time assistance of RSD 135,000. For the third child: RSD 2,280,000 in 120 monthly installments of RSD 19,000, plus one-time assistance of RSD 135,000. For the fourth child: RSD 3,180,000 in 120 monthly installments of RSD 26,500.

Newborn equipment allowance
RSD 7,500, paid with the first parental allowance payment.

Child benefit
RSD 4,530.64 as of July 1, 2026, depending on the total income per household member.
These rights can be claimed through the relevant municipal services or the eGovernment portal.
