Maternity Benefits in Serbia
When a baby is born, along with the joy, indescribable happiness, and love they bring into a home, there often comes another concern: Will we have enough to cover all the expenses that come with welcoming a new member of the family?
New mothers in Serbia are entitled to:

Income compensation during maternity leave
The amount is calculated based on the average contribution base for the 18 months preceding the start of maternity leave, up to a maximum of five average salaries. During the first three months, the compensation cannot be lower than the minimum wage. Maternity and childcare leave for the first and second child lasts 365 days, while for the third and fourth child it lasts two years.

Parental Allowance for a Newborn
First child: RSD 500,000, paid as a one-time payment. Second child: RSD 600,000, paid in 24 monthly installments of RSD 25,000, plus a one-time payment of RSD 135,000. Third child: RSD 2,280,000, paid in 120 monthly installments of RSD 19,000, plus a one-time payment of RSD 135,000. Fourth child: RSD 3,180,000, paid in 120 monthly installments of RSD 26,500.

Newborn Equipment Allowance
An additional RSD 7,500 is paid together with the first parental allowance payment.

Child allowance
It amounts to RSD 4,530.64 (as of July 1, 2026) and depends on the total income per family member.
These compensations and allowances can be obtained through the relevant municipal offices or the eUprava portal.
